Most cleaning products are full of deadly chemicals that are not only harmful to inhale, but can be bad for your home environment.
Today, companies like Clorox and Seventh Generation have created more eco friendly and user safe cleaning products. There are cleaning products that clean just as well, are better for you and are most likely already in your home.
Baking soda cleans, deodorizes and absorbs odors around the home. If you need an oven cleaner, baking soda is great for this task. For cleaning your oven, mix some baking soda with salt and water. As a natural air freshener or to remove odors pour some baking soda into small dishes and put them around your home.
Lemon, one of the the strongest food acids, is effective against household bacteria’s. Rub a slice of lemon onto your counter top or chopping block’s surface for a great disinfectant. Need tougher and more efficient cleaning? For tougher jobs, squeeze some lemon juice on your counter or surface and let it sit for 10 minutes. Surprisingly, lemon mixed with a few drops of olive oil is great for polishing furniture and shoes.
White vinegar removes mildew, odors and wax build up. Simmer vinegar (1 tbsp in 1 cup of water) on the stove while cooking to prevent cooking odors. Sick of those carpet stains? Just mix equal parts of vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
Spray directly onto the stain/s and leave for 7 minutes then clean with a brush or sponge using warm water. White vinegar can even clean brick and tile floors (apply vinegar to a sponge and wipe). You can infuse vinegar with orange peel for a fresh scent. For wooden floors add a few drops of vegetable oil for a great shine.
These products are not only easy to use but they are eco friendly and better for your health, family and home. So, next time while you are grocery shopping, remember that these products are not only good for baking and salad but are also great for cleaning your home.
(Note: Check with the manufacturer of your counter tops, and surface areas before using these tips.)
